In addition to teaching myself Adobe Framemaker to create this document, I produced the clearest and most explicit set of instructions for encrypting personally identifiable information that I have seen anywhere. The audience for this document includes the staff of the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities.  It demonstrates an ability to give users the information they need to accomplish tasks and goals.

Rewrite Lenovo Yoga Tablet
Hardware Maintenance Manual

Course project with infotech in china

This was a class project for a course on international technical communication. A team of three of us worked with InfoTech in China to rewrite a Lenovo hardware maintenance manual. This project simulated a global virtual team project, and it required us to improve the layout, sentence structure, design, and and word choice for the manual. This deliverable demonstrates an ability to work with engineers on producing clear, usable instructions for repairing hardware. I worked as the project lead, wrote most of the content, and created a style sheet for the project that specified layout, flow, design, and other elements.

After my course in international technical communication, I developed interest in establishing trust in virtual teams. My interest led me to research and write an article that was published in Intercom.  It demonstrates initiative and an ability to craft publishable content.

I worked with a classmate to prepare and conduct a moderated usability test in the Mercer University usability lab using Morae software. The deliverable demonstrates an ability with report writing, page layout and design, creating graphics, conveying qualitative and quantitative data,  and with conducting user research.

Research Article

User Experience and
technical communication

This document is the culmination of a a capstone project that entailed surveying UX and technical communication practitioners about the overlap in their areas of practice. I was the lead author on the article and completed extensive revisions after we reopened the survey and collected more responses.

Document Design, Before and After

Bridges from school to work

These are a series of documents combined in one PDF that reflect before and after versions of each. Scroll through to see the before and after versions. These demonstrate an ability with editing for usability, clarity, and with employing principles of design and layout.

Document Design, Suicide Prevention

I drafted these guidelines for Bridges from School to Work. The document demonstrates skill with written expression, page layout, and devising protocols for a sensitive and serious matter.

I created this video after teaching myself to use Adobe Captivate. It is a communication vehicle distributed to the staff of Bridges from School to Work, a non-profit organization established by the Marriott family in 1989.

Analytical Report

Technical data

This was an assignment for my first technical writing course. I was given the raw data and context and assigned to use it to prepare, write, and submit a formal technical report about a fictional auto body filler called Polyglop.
